How do I play? Fill the grid so that every row, every column and every box contains each number exactly once — on a 9×9 the boxes are the nine 3×3 blocks the heavier lines mark out. The in-app How to play walk-through, behind the question-mark button on the home screen, shows it on a real board.
What does the hint button do? It looks for the simplest deduction still available on your board, names the technique, and points at the cell — it does not write the number in. Press it again on the same cell and it fills that number in for free, because being shown a step and then taking it is one act of help, not two. Each puzzle allows as many hints as the board is wide, with a minimum of three: four on a 4×4, six on a 6×6, nine on a 9×9. Hints are not free in score terms — a solve with no hints and no mistakes is worth three stars, and only a flawless, hint-free, non-Zen solve counts for the daily leaderboard.
Can I pick the number before the cell? Yes. Turn on Number first in Settings: choose a digit on the keypad, then tap every cell it belongs in. With it off you pick the cell first and then the digit.
My progress disappeared. Progress, statistics and saved puzzles live on your device and in its backups. There is no account and no server copy, so reinstalling without a backup removes them.
How do I manage ad preferences? Use iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking for App Tracking Transparency permission. Where Google requires it in your region, Sudoku Settings → Privacy choices reopens Google's consent form so you can change or withdraw your choice.
How do I remove ads, and how do I get the purchase back? Settings → Remove ads is a one-time purchase; once you own it the banner, the ads between puzzles and the video before an extra hint all stop. On a new device, or after a reinstall, use Settings → Restore purchases. It is family-shareable, so a family member's purchase restores the same way.
